Minimum ad budget by platform: what each ad network actually requires
Short answer
TikTok publishes the highest floor: an ad group daily budget must exceed $20 and a campaign daily budget $50. LinkedIn requires $10 a day, Snapchat $5 a day. Meta recommends at least $5. X states no minimum spend; Pinterest and Google Ads publish no minimum.

This guide is for small business owners and for the freelancers and agencies who run paid social for them. Every figure below was read on the platform's own help or business pages on 2026-10-10 and is linked where it is stated. Where a platform does not publish a figure, or its page would not load, the table says so. No figure here comes from a third-party blog or aggregator.

Three notes on reading the table.
"Must exceed" is literal. TikTok's wording is "Budget must exceed $20" for an ad group daily budget, so $20.00 itself is not enough. Plan on $21.
Meta's floor is not one number. Meta's Marketing API exposes a minimum daily budget per ad set with a currency field and four separate values: one for ad sets optimised for impressions, one for "high frequency actions like clicks and likes," one for "low frequency actions like mobile app installs," and one for video views (Minimum budget fields). Meta's Business Help Center page on minimum budgets did not render its content when read for this guide, so this table does not quote a hard Meta minimum. The $5 figure is Meta's recommendation, worded as "start with at least $5 for your budget and to choose a duration over six days" (Meta ads pricing). Budgets are set "at ad account currencies minimum denomination level, such as cents for USD" (Meta budgets).
"Not published" is not "zero". Pinterest's and Google's budget pages describe how budgets work without stating a floor. LinkedIn's own budget page notes that a lifetime minimum depends on duration and "will be displayed if the set budget is too low" (Campaign and ad set budgets).
How much can each platform spend above the daily budget?
A daily budget is an average on most platforms, not a hard cap. This matters more than the minimum when cash is tight.
| Platform | What the platform says about daily overspend | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Meta | "Meta may spend up to 75% over your daily promotional budget"; spend "will not be greater than seven times your daily budget" over the week | Meta ads pricing |
| At a $100 daily budget on a continuous schedule, "your spend on a given day might be up to $200"; weekly spend would not exceed $700 | Campaign and ad set budgets | |
| "We try our best to spend no more than 125% of your daily budget in a single day" | Set up a campaign budget | |
| Google Ads | Daily spending limit is average daily budget × 2 for most campaigns; monthly limit is average daily budget × 30.4 | Budgets overview |
| TikTok | Lifetime budget "may not be allocated evenly across each day, but it won't exceed the total lifetime budget by the end of the campaign" | About budget |
What does the minimum cost per month?
Google defines the month for budgeting: "If you're working with a monthly budget, divide that number by 30.4" (Set an average daily budget). Multiplying each daily floor by 30.4 gives its monthly cost, assuming the platform spends the full budget every day.
| Platform and budget level | Daily | × 30.4 | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meta, recommended start | $5 | × 30.4 | $152.00 |
| Snapchat, minimum | $5 | × 30.4 | $152.00 |
| LinkedIn, minimum | $10 | × 30.4 | $304.00 |
| TikTok, ad group (above $20) | $21 | × 30.4 | $638.40 |
| LinkedIn, Dynamic Group Budget | $30 | × 30.4 | $912.00 |
| TikTok, campaign level (above $50) | $51 | × 30.4 | $1,550.40 |
Worked example: testing two platforms on a small budget
A local business wants to test Meta and TikTok for one month.
- Meta. One ad set at the recommended $5 a day: 5 × 30.4 = $152.00.
- TikTok. One ad group at $21 a day, with no campaign-level budget (a campaign-level daily budget would have to exceed $50): 21 × 30.4 = $638.40.
- Total floor: 152.00 + 638.40 = $790.40 for the month. TikTok is 81% of it (638.40 ÷ 790.40).
If the test runs as a fixed 31-day TikTok ad group on a lifetime budget, TikTok's own example applies: "$20 x 31 = $620" is the minimum lifetime budget.
Now swap TikTok for LinkedIn. LinkedIn's $10 daily minimum is twice Meta's $5 recommendation: 10 × 30.4 = $304.00 a month against Meta's $152.00. Meta plus LinkedIn comes to 152.00 + 304.00 = $456.00, which is $334.40 less than Meta plus TikTok. If the LinkedIn campaign sits in a group using Dynamic Group Budget, the floor rises to $30 a day: 30 × 30.4 = $912.00, six times Meta's monthly figure.
One more LinkedIn rule changes the arithmetic for lifetime budgets: a new, inactive campaign needs at least $100, and after launch the minimum becomes $10 times the days scheduled, so a 30-day campaign needs at least 10 × 30 = $300 (Campaign budgets). If a campaign group has a total budget, LinkedIn requires "a minimum unspent budget of $100 USD, or equivalent currency" to launch a new ad set (Campaign error troubleshooting).
These are spend floors, not results. None of the platforms promises any number of clicks or sales at its minimum, and this guide does not estimate one.
Should you boost a post or use Ads Manager?
The minimums for boosting a post are not on the pages read for this guide. Meta's and TikTok's boost help pages did not render their content, so this guide does not state a boost minimum for either.
What the help pages do support:
- Ads Manager is where the published floors apply. TikTok's minimums are stated for TikTok Ads Manager campaigns and ad groups. LinkedIn's are for Campaign Manager.
- Pick the budget type before launch on TikTok. TikTok says "you cannot switch between budget types once a campaign or ad group is live," and that the campaign budget "should not be lower than the Ad Group budget because this can cause delivery issues" (About budget).
- Meta's recommendation is about duration as well as money. The $5 recommendation is paired with "a duration over six days" (Meta ads pricing). A one-day boost at $5 is not what Meta recommends.
- Snapchat's floor and recommendation differ by four to ten times. $5 a day is the minimum; $20 to $50 a day is what Snapchat recommends (Snapchat ads pricing).
- Higher-funnel or conversion targets carry their own guidance on TikTok. TikTok's budget best-practices page sets recommended budgets as multiples of cost per action, separate from the hard minimums (Budget best practices).
A checklist before you spend
- Confirm the account currency. Meta's minimums are returned per currency (Minimum budget fields), and LinkedIn quotes "USD, or equivalent currency." A dollar figure in this guide is not the figure in a EUR or GBP account.
- Read the floor in the setup screen. Where a page says "not published", the setup screen is the authority. LinkedIn says the minimum is displayed when the budget is too low.
- Budget for the overspend, not the setting. Meta can spend up to 75% over on a day, LinkedIn up to 2× on a continuous schedule, Pinterest up to 125%, Google up to 2× for most campaigns (capped at 30.4× a month).
- Multiply by 30.4 and add the platforms together. Write the monthly total on the client brief before anything launches.
- On TikTok, choose daily or lifetime once. It cannot be switched after launch.
- On LinkedIn, check the group. Dynamic Group Budget raises the floor to $30 a day; a group total budget needs $100 unspent to add an ad set.
- Tag every ad link so the spend can be tied to site visits; see UTM parameters for social media in GA4.
- Agree what "results" means before reporting; reach, impressions and views are defined differently on each platform.
- Put the ad budget in the onboarding paperwork for client work: who pays, which card, which currency. The client onboarding checklist has the access steps.
Organic posting needs no ad budget at all. A flat-price scheduler such as Schedchie costs EUR 7.99 a month for unlimited connected accounts and scheduled posts (X posting is a separate add-on), which is less than one day at TikTok's ad group floor (Schedchie pricing).
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum budget for Facebook and Instagram ads?
Meta recommends starting with at least $5 and running for more than six days. Its Marketing API returns separate minimum daily budgets per ad account currency and per optimisation type: impressions, clicks and likes, low-frequency actions such as app installs, and video views.
What is the minimum budget for TikTok ads?
In TikTok Ads Manager, a daily budget must exceed $50 at campaign level and $20 at ad group level. An ad group lifetime budget must be at least the total number of days times the daily minimum, for example $20 × 31 = $620.
What is the minimum budget for LinkedIn ads?
$10 a day for any ad format, and $100 for the lifetime budget of a new, inactive campaign. After launch, the lifetime minimum becomes $10 times the days scheduled. Campaigns using Dynamic Group Budget need $30 USD a day.
Is there a minimum budget for X ads?
No. X says there is no minimum spend required for X Ads and that you always have complete control over how much your campaigns spend.
Do Pinterest and Google Ads have a minimum budget?
Neither publishes one on its budget help pages. Pinterest says it tries to spend no more than 125% of a daily budget in a day; Google caps daily billing at 2× the average daily budget for most campaigns and monthly billing at 30.4×.
