Social media account limits by platform: how many accounts one person can run
Short answer
X allows up to 10 accounts per person, YouTube 100 channels per Google Account, Instagram 10 logged-in accounts. Facebook and LinkedIn allow one personal account each; Pages are separate. Every platform bans spam-style repetition or unapproved automation.
This is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Rules change and depend on your country and situation; check the linked official sources or ask a qualified professional.

This guide is for freelancers, small agencies and anyone running a stack of brand, client or side-project accounts. Every rule below was read on each platform's own help pages on 2026-10-13: help centres, terms, community guidelines and developer documentation. No figure comes from a third-party blog or aggregator. Where a platform does not publish a number, or its page would not load, the table says "not published on pages that loaded" rather than guessing.
Instagram gets one row here; its full rules for many accounts are in Instagram rules for running multiple accounts.
How many accounts can you have on each platform?
| Platform | Accounts per person | Switch / login limit | Automation / duplicate-content rule | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No cap on accounts owned is stated | "up to 10 accounts logged in at one time" | No "creating accounts or accessing or collecting information in an automated way without our express permission"; Meta's Spam policy bars posting or creating accounts "at very high frequencies", manually or automatically | Add and switch profiles, Terms of Use, Spam | |
| One personal account. Pages are created and managed from it. New additional profiles can no longer be created. | A browser can store login information for up to 10 Facebook accounts | Terms bar collecting data "using automated means (without our prior permission)"; Meta's Spam policy applies | Multiple accounts, Switch accounts, Additional profiles, Terms | |
| Facebook business portfolio | Create up to 2; no limit on how many you belong to | Not applicable | "Business assets can only belong to 1 business portfolio" | Create a business portfolio |
| Threads | A profile is created with an Instagram account or with an email address or mobile number; no cap stated | Not published on pages that loaded | Meta's Community Standards, including Spam, cover Threads; API publishing capped at 250 posts per profile in 24 hours | Create a profile on Threads, Community Standards, Threads posts API |
| TikTok | "You can have multiple accounts", but not to deceive others or break the rules | Not published on pages that loaded | Spam includes "Using automation to run many accounts or send repetitive content"; Direct Post API capped at about 15 posts per creator account per day | Integrity and authenticity, Content sharing guidelines |
| YouTube | Up to 100 channels managed from one Google Account | Switch between the channels on that Google Account | Spam policy covers "coordinated networks of channels" and "high volumes of similar content with minimal changes" | Switch between channels, Spam policy |
| One account, in your real name. Pages are separate; creation is rate-limited. | Not applicable (one account) | No "bots or other unauthorized automated methods" to message, post, comment, like or share | User Agreement, Duplicate accounts | |
| X | "up to ten (10) accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes" | Not published on pages that loaded | No duplicative or substantially similar posts on one account or across accounts you operate; automating related but non-duplicative accounts is permitted | Platform manipulation and spam, Automation rules |
| No cap stated; each email address can be linked to one account | Switching works within the same browser session | Don't "operate multiple accounts" to manipulate the platform; no automation "that hasn't been explicitly approved by Pinterest" | Connect accounts, Email on multiple accounts, Community guidelines | |
| Bluesky | Not stated; do not create new accounts to evade bans | Not published on pages that loaded | "Do not send spam or repeatedly post content"; Bluesky PDS write limits of 35,000 points a day per account | Community guidelines, Rate limits |
Only X and YouTube publish a number of accounts you may own. Instagram's ten is a login limit, not an ownership limit. TikTok, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky state no cap. Facebook and LinkedIn are strict about personal accounts only. Facebook says "It's against our Community Standards to maintain more than one personal account"; LinkedIn says "you will only have one LinkedIn account, which must be in your real name". Neither help page read here states a limit on the number of Pages one person administers.
What do Facebook and LinkedIn allow beyond one personal account?
On Facebook, the personal profile "is for non-commercial use and represents an individual person"; a business, brand or product goes on a Page created from that account (Facebook Help). Meta has also closed the older workaround: "You are no longer able to create additional Facebook profiles. Existing additional profiles have not been affected" (Facebook Help).
Client Pages usually sit in a Meta business portfolio. Meta's limit is on creation, not membership: "You can personally create up to 2 business portfolios. There is no limit on the number of portfolios you can belong to" (Meta Business Help). For an agency, the practical reading is that clients create and own their portfolios and add the agency. The agency access guide covers the roles to request.
LinkedIn's limits on Pages are about pace. "To help prevent spam, there are limits on the number of Pages you can create in a short period of time", the account creating a Page needs more than one connection, a new account must wait at least one day, and each Page can have "25 or fewer associated Showcase Pages" (LinkedIn Help). LinkedIn publishes no number for the short-period limit.
What does each platform say about duplicate posts across accounts?
X is the most specific. Its automation rules say "You may not post duplicative or substantially similar posts on one account or over multiple accounts you operate", and "You may not create and/or automate multiple accounts for duplicative or substantially similar use cases" (X Help). Its platform manipulation policy lists cross-posting content across multiple accounts as not allowed, with one exception: "content that is cross-posted but localized into another language is permitted" (X Help). Allowed uses include brand accounts per language and controlling "multiple accounts on behalf of a third-party (e.g. 'Social Media Managers')" provided no rules are broken. In a multiple-account violation, X says "you may be asked to choose one account to keep. The remaining accounts will be suspended."
The others state the principle with less detail. TikTok lists "Spreading violative content across multiple accounts" as circumvention (TikTok Community Guidelines). Meta may restrict accounts "acting at lower frequencies when other indicators of spam (e.g. posting repetitive content)" are present (Spam). YouTube bars using automated tools to produce "high volumes of similar content with minimal changes" (Spam policy); Pinterest and Bluesky ban repetitive posting in their guidelines. LinkedIn's pages read here do not address it, which follows from its one-account rule.
Which automation is allowed?
The pattern is the same everywhere: automation through the platform's own API, with the account owner's consent, is the approved route; scripts, bots and browser extensions are not.
- LinkedIn bans "bots or other unauthorized automated methods" to "send or redirect messages, create, comment on, like, share, or re-share posts" (User Agreement, effective 3 November 2025). Its help centre names "browser extensions that scrape, modify the appearance of, or automate activity on LinkedIn's website", and says users of them "risk having their accounts restricted or shut down" (LinkedIn Help).
- TikTok's Terms bar using "automated scripts to collect information from or otherwise interact with the Services" (Terms of Service, last updated 1 December 2025). Approved apps must give users "full awareness and control of what is being posted to their TikTok accounts" (Content sharing guidelines).
- YouTube requires apps to have "the user's prior specific and express consent" before automating actions such as uploads (YouTube API Services Developer Policies).
- Instagram and Pinterest rules are quoted in the table: no automated account creation without permission, and no automation Pinterest has not approved.
- X permits automating several accounts "for related but non-duplicative use cases", with its example of separate accounts posting when a space telescope passes over different cities (Automation rules).
How many posts can an account publish through an API?
Approved scheduling tools publish through these APIs, so the per-account caps below apply to them. They are technical ceilings; the spam rules above can apply well below them.
| Platform | Published per-account limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| "100 API-published posts within a 24-hour moving period" (the same guide's carousel section says 50) | Content publishing | |
| Threads | "Profiles are limited to 250 published posts within a 24-hour period" | Threads posts |
| TikTok | Direct Post: "typically around 15 posts per day/ creator account", shared across all API clients | Content sharing guidelines |
| X | Account limit of "50 original posts and 200 replies per day for unverified accounts" (the same page also refers to "2,400 updates per day") | X limits |
| Bluesky | 35,000 points a day per account at 3 points per create: 35,000 ÷ 3 = 11,666 creates a day | Rate limits |
| YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Facebook | Not published on pages that loaded |
TikTok's cap is the one that bites. Two tools posting to the same TikTok account share the same 15 or so daily posts.
Worked example: a freelancer with four clients
A freelancer runs a personal brand plus four clients. Each client wants Instagram, a Facebook Page, TikTok, a LinkedIn Page, a YouTube channel and X.
- Instagram. One personal account plus four client accounts is 5 logins, under the limit of ten logged in at one time. Room for 5 more before logging out becomes necessary.
- Facebook. One personal account, never a second one. The four client Pages are managed from it. If each client has its own business portfolio and adds the freelancer, the freelancer creates none of the 2 allowed.
- LinkedIn. One personal profile, made an admin on four client Pages. No second LinkedIn account for client work.
- YouTube. Four client channels plus one own channel is 5 of the 100 one Google Account can manage, if the clients use Brand Accounts and add the freelancer.
- X. One own account plus four client accounts is 5. X allows up to ten "for different, non-duplicative purposes" and lists controlling accounts for a third party as allowed. The policy does not say whether client accounts count toward the user's ten, so this guide does not answer that.
- TikTok. No account number is published. Each account gets roughly 15 Direct Post API posts a day.
- Content. Posting the same announcement to all four clients' X accounts is cross-posting under X's policy; localised versions are the stated exception.
The per-person limits are not the constraint at this size. The duplicate-content and automation rules are.
A checklist before adding more accounts
- One personal account on Facebook and LinkedIn. Client work goes on Pages.
- Clients own the containers. Portfolios, Brand Accounts and Pages stay in the client's name, with you added.
- Different posts per account. Especially on X.
- Automation through APIs only. No browser extensions or scripts.
- Accounts are linked for enforcement. X may suspend all but one account in a multiple-account violation; TikTok may ban additional accounts after deceptive account behaviour.
Scheduling across many accounts
A scheduler priced per account or per channel costs more with every client added in the example above. A flat-price scheduler such as Schedchie costs EUR 7.99 a month with unlimited connected accounts and unlimited scheduled posts; posting to X is a separate paid add-on (pricing). What 10, 25, 50 and 100 accounts cost on 25 tools is compared in best tools to manage multiple social media accounts.
Frequently asked questions
How many Instagram accounts can you have?
Instagram states no limit on accounts owned. Its help centre says you can have up to ten accounts logged in at one time. Its Terms bar creating accounts in an automated way without Instagram's express permission.
Can you have two Facebook accounts?
Not two personal accounts. Facebook says maintaining more than one personal account is against its Community Standards, and additional profiles can no longer be created. A business, brand or organisation uses a Page managed from your personal account.
How many YouTube channels can one Google Account have?
You can manage up to 100 channels from one Google Account, using Brand Accounts for channels with a different name. A Brand Account can have multiple owners and managers.
How many X accounts can you have?
X allows a user to create or operate up to ten accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes. Posting the same or substantially similar content across them is not allowed, except content localised into another language.
Is it allowed to have multiple TikTok accounts?
Yes. TikTok's Community Guidelines say you can have multiple accounts, for example for fan content or creative expression, but not to deceive others or break the rules. Using automation to run many accounts counts as spam.
Can you have more than one LinkedIn account?
No. LinkedIn's User Agreement allows one account per person, in your real name, and its help centre says creating multiple profiles is not allowed. LinkedIn Pages are separate from personal accounts.
